My research focuses on histories and theories of national identity and the self as they intersect with science and technology, labor, and aesthetics, especially in the United States’ context.
Research Interests: 20th and 21st-century mass culture; media art and the historical avant-garde; industrialism and information technologies; art practice, pedagogy, and technique as labor; the professionalized art world; Marxist, pragmatic, cybernetic, postmodern, and aesthetic theories; ecological and perception psychology and theories of embodied consciousness; and the concepts of nationalism, the public, individualism, and freedom
